Wright Vacates Director’s Chair On Ant-Man

By Drax Largo on May 23rd, 2014

Director Edgar Wright (The World’s End) has left the director’s chair vacant on Marvel’s Ant-Man. The current spin goes a little like this:

“Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on ANT-MAN due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.”

How this will impact production, currently underway in Georgia,  remains to be seen. Furthermore, the current screenplay was co-written by Wright with Joe Cornish (Attack the Block). Will the script now be subjected to heavy revisions once a new director is announced?

Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas will star, both of whom will be playing Ant-Men Scott Lang and Hank Pym respectively. Michael Pena is also in talks for a undisclosed role in the production.

Rudd will play man with the ability to shrink to insect size, but he is looking for redemption. Douglas is playing the scientist who invents the technology.

Set to begin production shortly in Georgia, Ant-Man will be directed by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead), who co-wrote the script with Joe Cornish (Attack the Block).

Once more, Marvel’s Ant-Man is now set for July 17, 2015.
