Weaver On Board For Aliens Sequel

Now that writer/director Neill Blomkamp is officially on board for the next chapter in the Alien saga, the likelihood of Sigourney Weaver reprising her role as Ellen Ripley is stronger than ever. If you have any doubts, click that player below to hear the words straight from the horse’s mouth. Weaver’s deal hasn’t been officially worked out just yet, but from the sound of things she’s definitely ready to suit up as Ripley one more time.

In addition to Weaver’s probable return, Blomkamp is talking about his narrative plans for the next Alien movie; it sounds like Blomkamp wants his movie to be a direct sequel to James Cameron’s Aliens!! So what does that mean for David Fincher’s Alien 3 and Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s Alien: Resurrection? I have no idea, but it does explain, albeit to a small degree, seeing Hicks (Michael Biehn) in the concept art.

Perhaps Blomkamp will explain the last two entries were nothing more than nightmares during Ripley’s extended cryo-sleep (I know, that’s kind of lame), or perhaps he’ll ignore that part of the canon altogether.

Anyway, click below to hear what’s possibly in store.
