The Overlook Hotel Gets A New Caretaker

Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo) has nabbed the directing gig for Warner Bros. The Shining prequel, The Overlook Hotel.

Former The Walking Dead show runner Glen Mazzara penned the screenplay, which as based on Stephen King’s original prologue to The Shining, which was cut from the book prior to publication in 1977.

Mythology Entertainment’s Bradley Fischer, James Vanderbilt and Laeta Kalogridis will produce.

No word on casting just yet, but now that a director’s on board expect that to change in the very near future.

As I’m sure most of you remember, The Shining was one of Stephen King’s early horror works and was adapted into the classic Stanley Kubrick movie, which starred Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. King was less-than-happy with Kubrick’s interpretation of his work, which eventually led to a 1997 ABC mini-series penned by King himself, with Mick Garris at the helm. Steven Weber and Rebecca DeMornay starred in the TV version.
