Suicide Squad: Hardy Out, Gyllenhaal In

By Dr. Know on January 16th, 2015

According to Heat Vision, Tom Hardy is departing the cast of the Warner Bros. adaptation of Suicide Squad. A scheduling conflict seems to be the culprit here, which doesn’t surprise me; Hardy’s in high demand these days.

On the bright side, Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler) has been offered Hardy’s role of Rick Flagg; however, whether or not he accepts remains to be seen.

In case you’re in the dark on this one, Suicide Squad features a band of DC baddies who’ve been incarcerated for one transgression or another. The revolving door of villains agree to the undertake a batch of high-risk black-op missions for the government in order to receive commuted prison sentences.

The first version debuted in The Brave and the Bold (vol. 1) #25 (1959), and the second in Legends #3 (1987). An “original” Suicide Squad was retconned into existence in Secret Origins (vol. 2) #14, in order to form a connection between the two Squads.

Smith will play Deadshot, while Jake Gyllenhaal, if he accepts the role, will play the group’s leader, Rick Flagg.

Jared Leto will take on the Joker while Margot Robbie will play Harley Quinn, his on-and-off girlfriend. Jai Courtney will be Boomerang while Cara Delevingne will play Enchantress, a sorceress.

Suicide Squad is scheduled for release Aug. 5, 2016.
