Spaihts Writing Doctor Strange

By Dr. Know on June 19th, 2014

Following the news that Scott Derrickson (Sinister) will direct Doctor Strange, now comes word that Prometheus screenwriter John Spaihts will be rewriting the screenplay.

Spaihts will be overhauling previous drafts write by Conan the Barbarian screenwriters Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.

Doctor Strange, who made his first appearance in the Marvel Universe more than 50 years ago in 1963, is a former neurosurgeon who serves as the Sorcerer Supreme — the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats. The character was first created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in the pages of Strange Tales No. 110.

Rumored candidates to play Strange are said to include Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hardy and Jared Leto.

As of late, Spaihts has been writing a reboot of The Mummy over at Universal, while director Derrickson has Deliver Us From Evil hitting theaters July 2nd.
