UPDATE: Shane Black’s Predator Is A Sequel!!

By Dr. Know on June 26th, 2014

UPDATE: Seems everyone jumped the gun on the hole reboot thing a couple of days ago; while talking to Collider about his work on the upcoming Predator movie, director Shane Black stated the new movie will in fact be a sequel to existing films, not a reboot of the franchise:

“Why start over, when you’ve all this rich mythology yet to mine?” Black says, adding that he can, “…really get behind inventive sequels.”

So there you have it. Here endeth the hearsay…for now, anyway.

Is writer/director Shane Black (Iron Man 3, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) -also a cast member in the original Predator (he played Hawkins) – planning on co-writing and directing a remake of 1987’s Predator?!! If Heat Vision is to be believed, then, yes, it may be happening.

Word is Black will write the treatment for the project, then will hand over scripting duties to Fred Dekker, Black’s old pal, director and co-writer 1987’s Monster Squad. Black will oversee the writing process and will allegedly direct.

John Davis, who produced the original with Joel Silver and Lawrence Gordon, is producing the reboot.

Obviously plot details are sparse at this point, but I’m guessing it’ll have something to do with the intergalactic hunter picking off a bunch of badasses one-by-one.

Stay tuned, as this story just got super-hot with Black now being involved.
