Refn Takes On The Neon Demon
By Dr. Know on November 3rd, 2014
Nicolas Winding Refn’s next project is set to be a horror flick, fiends and friends! Refn will be directing The Neon Demon, a new original screenplay he co-wrote with newcomer Mary Laws.
So why’s Refn taking a stab at horror?
“One morning I woke and realized I was both surrounded and dominated by women. Strangely, a sudden urge was planted in me to make a horror film about vicious beauty. After making Drive and falling madly in love with the electricity of Los Angeles, I knew I had to return to tell the story of The Neon Demon. This movie is a manifestation of the strong ties between us and will lead to many more adventures.”
Alrightee, then. Whatever that means…
No mention of any possible stars at this early stage, but it is known Refn will be collaborating once again with editor Matthew Newman and composer Cliff Martinez. French cinematographer Philippe Le Sourd, who was Oscar-nominated for Wong Kar-Wai’s The Grandmaster, will handle the camera chores.
The official start date is still pending, but word is the production is eyeing an early 2016 release.
