R.I.P. Marilyn Burns
By Drax Largo on August 6th, 2014
On the chance you haven’t already heard the sad news, Marilyn Burns, co-star of Tobe Hooper’s landmark 1974 horror movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, has died. She was 65.
Burns was found dead in her Houston, Texas home by a family member on Tuesday, and her representative tells TMZ.com an autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause of death.
Marilyn Burns was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on July 5, 1950, and was one of the first ‘Scream Queen’, remembered primarily for her role in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974). Her follow-up appearance was in Hooper’s much-reviled Eaten Alive (1977), where she played a vacationer who unwittingly stumbles upon a hotel run by a madman who feeds his guests to his pet alligator.
In 1976, she appeared in the TV-movie, Helter Skelter (1976), and her role as Linda Kasabian, the Charlie Manson disciple whose testimony helped lead to the convictions of the cult leader and many of his followers.
In 1994, Marilyn had an uncredited cameo role as a patient on a gurney in Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation, arguably the worst entry in the franchise’s four-decade history.
