Ever since word got out Ridley Scott was returning to the Alien universe with a film entitled Prometheus, there’s been a shitload of speculation swirling around the proposed storyline. Initially planned as a prequel to his sci-fi classic, the project changed dramatically when Lost‘s Damon Lindelof rewrote the script, taking the franchise in a totally different direction, which Scott and Fox apparently sparked to.
Earlier yesterday, though, the official synopsis had supposedly leaked to io9 courtesy of an anonymous tipster. Now, however, it seems the deets they were spewing turned out to be a load of poo. Since the initial post, a rep at Fox apparently contacted the gang at io9 to debunk the synopsis. They’ve now supplied them with the real synopsis of Prometheus:
Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.
Gee, what a total shocker; the overview above is just about as obscure as anything we’ve read or heard before.
And so it goes – as we roll toward June 8/2012 the speculation continues…
