Pegg Rewriting Star Trek III
By Drax Largo on January 22nd, 2015
In addition to co-starring as Scotty, multi-hyphenate Simon Pegg will also be rewriting Star Trek III!
Now before you jump to conclusions and assume this is an actor meddling with the screenplay, one must remember Pegg is a well-established screenwriter. Having co-written The Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End), Paul and his fair share of Spaced episodes, Pegg is more than qualified to take this job on.
Pegg will be reworking previous drafts by Patrick McKay and John D. Payne with Dark Blue creator Doug Jung.
Justin Lin is directing, replacing the previously announced Roberto Orci.
Lin was originally set to helm a follow-up for The Bourne Legacy, but that all changed when Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass set deals to return to the franchise and resurrect Jason Bourne.
Plot details for the new Trek are unknown at present but all principal cast members from the past two films are expected to reprise their roles.
Although he’s deep into Star Wars: The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams is still supervising as a producer along with his producing partner Bryan Burk and Skydance’s David Ellison.
Star Trek III is set for release July 8, 2016.
