Official: Blomkamp Is Doing A New Alien Movie!!!

By Drax Largo on February 18th, 2015

A couple of weeks ago director Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Chappie) posted some conceptual art for a proposed Alien movie. At the time Blomkamp played it off like it was something he was simply creating for fun. Of course, speculation about Blomkamp officially doing a new Alien movie at Fox ran rampant throughout the internet following this. Naturally, at the time, Blomkamp and Fox said nothing was official.

Well, today it is official: Blomkamp is developing a new chapter in the Alien saga!

“So I think this is officially my next film,” he confirmed on Instagram.

So what does this mean for Ridley Scott’s in-development Prometheus 2? According to Fox, it’s still a go.

At this early stage, details on the new movie are sketchy, but if one was to go off Blomkamp’s concept art (see below) one would have to assume Ripley and Hicks (Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn) will be back in action. If so, it’ll be interesting to see how Hicks is resurrected from the dead. Perhaps cloning a la Ripley in Alien: Resurrection?

I’ll admit I am jazzed about this. The way they left Ripley in limbo after making it back to Earth was terrible. Let’s hope Blomkamp can right that wrong and give Ripley what will hopefully be a worthy send off. This, of course, can only happen if Sigourney Weaver officially signs on, something she said she’d consider if Blomkamp was involved. The fact that Blomkamp recently worked with her on his latest, Chappie, bodes well for this actually happening.

So, for now, let the speculation begin!
