Mayhew Reprising Chewbacca Role

Late last month rumors were swirling that Star Wars trilogy star Peter Mayhew was likely to reprise his role as Chewbacca in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII. Today, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that rumor, reporting that the 69-year-old actor will, indeed, play the famous Wookiee once more.

The film’s official cast is expected to be announced shortly with Girls star Adam Driver rumored to play the film’s Darth Vader-like villain. Moreover, the movie will be set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi and will follow a trio of new young leads along with some very familiar faces. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford are all heavily rumored to appear as older incarnations of their beloved characters from the original Star Wars trilogy,

Directed by J.J. Abrams and written by Abrams, Lawrence Kasdan and Michael Arndt, Star Wars: Episode VII is rumored to include appearances by Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford in older incarnations of their beloved characters from the original Star Wars trilogy.

Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled for December 18, 2015.
