Green Inferno Release Date Scrapped

By Dr. Know on August 8th, 2014

When it comes to hardcore horror, suits in the ivory tower often get cold feet as release dates draw closer and closer, and Eli Roth’s first directorial effort in seven years, The Green Inferno, is no exception to that rule; seems its planned release date of September 5th has been scrapped by distributor Open Road Films’ financier Worldview Entertainment. They’ve withdrawn the film’s Publicity & Advertising budget.

So you know what that means? This sucker won’t be getting a theatrical release anytime soon. Although nothing is set in stone yet, I’m willing to bet the bean counters are going to punt this movie straight to VOD and streaming and save some $ on the marketing front.

Think I’m wrong? I kinda doubt it.

In case you’re clueless on this one, The Green Inferno concerns an idealistic student and a group of naive do-gooders who are captured by cannibalistic Indios after their plane crash lands in the Peruvian jungle. Sort of Roth’s ode to Cannibal Holocaust, a movie Roth absolutely adores.

Lorenza Isso, Ariel Levy and Daryl Sabara star.

Christopher Woodrow, Molly Connors, Miguel Asenio Llamas and Roth’s Aftershock director Nicolás López are producers.

In the meantime, here’s the trailer for the movie because it may be a while before this mofo is seen by the hardcore horror public.
