Universal has scheduled the next Bourne action movie for August 14, 2015. Justin Lin will take over the director’s chair from Tony Gilroy.
Jeremy Renner is set to return as Aaron Cross, an original character created specifically for the last movie, The Bourne Legacy.
Although details on the story are being kept under wraps, it is known that Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes) wrote the current draft of the script.
Frank Marshall and Captivate Entertainment’s Ben Smith and Jeffrey Weiner are also back as producers, and Lin also will produce through his Perfect Storm banner.
The last entry in the franchise, The Bourne Legacy, featured Jeremy Renner’s Cross as a medically enhanced covert operative. His protocols were designed to make him smarter and stronger than other agents as part of Operation Outcome. Thanks to the insidious Col. Eric Byer (Edward Norton) trying to cover his tracks, Cross was then targeted for termination. Directed by Tony Gilroy, The Bourne Legacy opened domestically on August 10, 2012 to the tune of $38.1 million and went on to make $276.6 million worldwide.
