Fleischer To Direct Ghostbusters III?

By Dr. Know on June 2nd, 2014

Is Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad) in line to direct Ghostbusters III? The Wrap seems to think so.

Initially, it looked like Fleischer was a frontrunner to take over the director’s chair on Marvel’s Ant-Man following the departure of original director Edgar Wright. That changed over the weekend however, when Adam McKay (The Other Guys) took the top contender spot by entering into negotiations with Marvel, only to pull out almost immediately after. Word was Fleischer was still at the top of the list along with We’re the Millers director Rawson Marshall Thurber. Not so anymore since it seems Thurber is allegedly more willing to accommodate producer’s notes and serve a studio’s vision.

Another factor that may have made Fleischer a better fit for Ghostbusters III, as opposed to Ant-Man, is the fact that Fleischer’s wife just gave birth to their first child. He may have been be reluctant to take a demanding gig that will require such a big commitment so soon. Ghostbusters III is still a ways off from rolling. Into the bargain, he also directed Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less for Sony, which would make him a natural fit given his talent for action and comedy.

Of course, nothing is set in stone just yet. For the moment, everything is strictly speculation. Having said that, I’d expect to hear something official on Ghostbusters III and Marvel’s Ant-Man very soon.
