Driver In Star Wars: Episode VII

By Dr. Know on February 27th, 2014

So the big hoopla today is the rumor that Girls actor Adam Driver has been offered a villainous role in Star Wars: Episode VII. Allegedly, the role is very Vader-ish, something I hope isn’t necessarily true. Not that I have anything against Driver; I’d just like to see J.J. Abrams and the cast and crew going down a different creative path instead of the same tired ground.

The deal isn’t official just yet, however, so don’t count your chickens before they hatch, This could all fall apart at the eleventh hour.

As usual, a lot of this is educated speculation; Disney and Lucasfilm are declining to comment.

Production is scheduled for April, so I would imagine the spine of the story isn’t going to change much at this juncture. Major FX and set pieces will have to be locked into place in order to meet the logistically-crazy deadlines. I’m guessing the current rewrite from director Abrams and Star Wars legend Lawrence Kasdan will focus more on dialogue and character arcs.

Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled for December 18, 2015.
