Derrickson Directing Doctor Strange

It’s official: Scott Derrickson (Sinister) will direct Marvel’s long-gestating Doctor Strange; however, at this early stage, a script has yet to be written.

Word is Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger (Kung Fu Panda) are in the mix to pen the project, but even if they get the gig Derrickson will no doubt take a pass at things being a screen scribe in his own right.

Doctor Strange, who made his first appearance in the Marvel Universe more than 50 years ago in 1963, is a former neurosurgeon who serves as the Sorcerer Supreme — the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats. The character was first created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in the pages of Strange Tales No. 110.

In the meantime, since a script still has to be written, don’t expect this to be ready anytime soon. Two to three years at minimum…and that’s if all goes well (it almost never does).

Derrickson’s latest directorial effort, Deliver Us From Evil, is poised to scare up box office business on July 2, 2014.
