Black Takes On The Destroyer!

Shane Black (Iron Man 3) has attached himself to yet another high-profile project in Tinseltown today; Black has signed on to direct a reboot of The Destroyer for Sony Pictures.
Created by Warren Murphy (co-writer with Black on Lethal Weapon 2) and Richard Sapir, The Destoyer pulp novels center on Remo Williams, a Newark cop framed for a crime he didn’t commit and is sentenced to death. His death is faked by the government so he can be trained as an assassin for CURE, a secret organization set up by President John F. Kennedy to defend the country by working outside the law.
“The Destroyer is a two-fisted classic and deserves no less than the genius of Shane Black,” Columbia’s president of production Michael De Luca said in a statement. “We couldn’t be more excited about his vision for this character.”
Black is a busy man as of late; he’s attached to direct a Predator sequel in addition to noir thriller The Nice Guys starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe. Furthermore, he’s still developing Doc Savage, another pulp character, under the Sony umbrella.
The Destroyer script will be written by Jim Uhls (Fight Club) along with novelist James Mullaney.
In 1985, The Destroyer concept was adapted as Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins. It starred Fred Ward as Williams and Joel Grey as Chiun. The film shows the first meeting of Remo and Chiun, and centers on a corrupt weapons manufacturer who is selling guns to the US Army.
As of press time there are no stars attached to the new cinematic iteration of this character.
